Working to grow, maintain, and diversify export markets for South African berries.

Strengthening global market access.

The South African berry industry has grown rapidly over the past decade, with blueberry exports alone increasing from 1 792 tons in 2013 to 25 757 tons in 2025.

Today, South African berries are exported to markets across Africa, Europe, the Far East, Asia, the Middle East, and the Indian Ocean Islands, with global demand for premium berries continuing to rise. Several proprietary blueberry cultivars grown in South Africa consistently achieve high-value returns in international markets, further strengthening the industry’s global reputation.

As the industry grows, expanding and diversifying market access remains a key focus. Berries ZA works alongside government departments, export partners, and industry stakeholders to support market access processes, maintain existing export markets, and pursue new opportunities for South African berries internationally.

This includes ongoing engagement around export protocols, technical compliance, and trade discussions to help strengthen the long-term growth and global reach of the South African berry industry.

Several market access protocols are currently in progress, including India, China, and Thailand, while additional export opportunities remain under assessment across key Asian markets.
